Trump Dismisses Iran's Peace Proposal as Unacceptable Amid Ongoing Tensions

In a significant development, President Donald Trump has firmly rejected Iran's recent proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, labeling it as 'totally unacceptable.' This comes as tensions escalate, with key Republican leaders suggesting military action may be necessary. The conflict, which has disrupted global oil supplies, has seen attempts at negotiation falter. Trump’s comments reflect a broader strategy as he navigates complex international relations, particularly with Iran's ongoing uranium enrichment program and its implications for regional stability. The situation remains fluid as both sides seek a resolution.

Trump's Firm Rejection of Iran's Proposal

Washington: President Donald Trump has categorically rejected Iran's recent proposal aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict, labeling it as 'totally unacceptable' without providing specific details. This response comes as a prominent Republican figure has urged him to contemplate a military response.

The Iranian proposal was presented to Trump on Sunday, raising hopes for a potential resolution to the war that has been ongoing since February 28, which has obstructed a crucial maritime route for global oil, resulting in fuel shortages across various nations.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed his discontent, stating, 'I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it – TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!'

Previously, Trump accused Tehran of manipulating the United States for nearly five decades, asserting, 'They will be laughing no longer!'

In an interview with Axios, Trump reiterated his disapproval of the Iranian letter, calling it 'inappropriate' and refraining from elaborating on its contents.

'They have been tapping along many nations for 47 years,' he remarked.

Meanwhile, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham suggested that Trump should now consider military action.

'I appreciate President Trump’s earnest efforts to seek a diplomatic solution to change the behavior of the Iranian terrorist regime,' he stated on X.

'However, given their continuous assaults on international shipping, ongoing attacks on our Middle Eastern allies, and now a completely unacceptable response to America’s diplomatic overture, I believe it’s time to consider a change in strategy,' Graham added.

'Project Freedom Plus sounds pretty good right about now,' he mentioned, referring to the naval operation intended to escort vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, which Trump had abruptly halted after less than two days.

Trump also revealed that he had a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, discussing the Iranian response among other topics.

'It was a very nice call. We have a good relationship,' he noted regarding Netanyahu, but emphasized that the negotiations with Iran are 'my situation, not everybody else’s.'

The conflict between the US and Iran commenced on February 28, with hostilities paused since April 8, when both parties agreed to a ceasefire.

Efforts to negotiate a lasting peace deal have been ongoing, yet a resolution remains elusive.

The US has been demanding that Iran provide a definitive commitment to cease its uranium enrichment activities in exchange for lifting sanctions and releasing billions in frozen Iranian assets.

The negotiations also involve both nations lifting the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for one-fifth of the world’s crude oil supply.
