Trump Declares Two-Week Ceasefire with Iran Amid Rising Tensions

President Donald Trump has announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, following urgent appeals from Pakistani leadership. This significant pause in hostilities is contingent on Iran's reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The agreement also sees Israel halting its bombing campaign. Trump indicated that discussions are progressing towards a broader resolution, with a 10-point proposal from Iran serving as a potential foundation for lasting peace. This two-week window is viewed as critical for finalizing a comprehensive agreement that could end ongoing conflicts in the region.

Significant Ceasefire Announcement

In a pivotal move, President Donald Trump has declared a two-week ceasefire with Iran, just hours ahead of his 8 PM deadline. This agreement represents a crucial pause in the escalating tensions in the Middle East. Trump referred to the ceasefire as a “double sided CEASEFIRE,” which came after discussions with Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged the United States to postpone any military actions. The ceasefire is contingent upon Iran's commitment to the “COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz.” The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has confirmed this two-week ceasefire, which was facilitated by Pakistan, as reported by Mehr News Agency.

As per reports from CNN, Israel has also consented to participate in the ceasefire, agreeing to halt its bombing operations during this two-week timeframe while negotiations are ongoing. Trump stated that the US has “met and exceeded all Military objectives” and suggested that discussions are nearing a broader resolution. He mentioned that a “10 point proposal from Iran” is now viewed as a feasible foundation for further negotiations.

Key Highlights of the Ceasefire

  • Two-Week Suspension: Trump has agreed to “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.”

  • Condition on the Strait of Hormuz: The ceasefire is dependent on Iran reopening this vital waterway safely and immediately.

  • Pakistan’s Involvement: This decision followed direct appeals from Pakistan’s leadership to delay military action.

  • Israel’s Role: Israel will also cease its bombing campaign during the ceasefire period.

  • Advancements in Negotiations: Trump indicated that a long-term agreement is “close to resolution,” with most contentious issues being addressed.

Iran's 10-point proposal outlines broader conditions for achieving lasting peace in the region. This includes a permanent cessation of hostilities, a rejection of temporary ceasefire models, and regional de-escalation across Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and beyond. The proposal also demands binding security guarantees to avert future attacks, a structured framework for the Strait of Hormuz to ensure safe maritime passage, and the lifting of US and international sanctions. Additional requests encompass the release of frozen Iranian assets, war reparations, reconstruction support, and formal recognition of Iran’s sovereignty. A structured peace mechanism with follow-up negotiations and monitoring systems is also part of the framework, aimed at ensuring long-term stability. The two-week period is now being viewed as a crucial time to “finalize and consummate” a broader agreement that could potentially end the ongoing conflict.
