Trump Acknowledges His 'Alcoholic's Personality' in Candid Interview
Trump's Unique Perspective on Alcoholism
US President Donald Trump, known for his abstinence from alcohol, has concurred with Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who described him as having an 'alcoholic's personality.' They both framed this trait positively, viewing it as a relentless drive towards his goals.
During an interview with the New York Post, Trump remarked, "I’ve often referred to myself in this way," dismissing the controversial comments made by Wiles regarding his leadership.
He expressed gratitude for his sobriety, suggesting that had he been a drinker, he might have exhibited possessive and addictive tendencies.
This endorsement of Wiles comes after a tumultuous period in his administration, where he cycled through four chiefs of staff during his first term, with Reince Priebus serving the shortest tenure.
Support for Wiles also came from other administration officials, including Vice President JD Vance.
In her discussions with Vanity Fair, Wiles characterized Trump’s personality as that of someone who believes there are no limits to what he can achieve.
She elaborated on her assessment, noting that high-functioning alcoholics often display exaggerated traits when under the influence, drawing from her personal experiences with her father, a former sports journalist who struggled with alcoholism.
Wiles criticized the media narrative surrounding her comments, labeling it as chaotic and negative, while asserting that crucial context was omitted from the articles.
Her candid remarks during the interview were notable for a chief of staff still in office, providing a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the administration.
Wiles referred to Vance as a 'conspiracy theorist,' a label he took lightly, joking about their private discussions on the topic.
She commended FBI Director Kash Patel for his insight into the significance of disclosing information related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, acknowledging the complexities of Trump’s supporter base.
However, she also pointed out that Patel's expectations regarding the Epstein files were misguided.
Wiles was critical of Attorney General Pam Bondi's handling of the Epstein situation, stating she 'whiffed it,' but Bondi defended Wiles, praising her loyalty and effectiveness in promoting Trump's agenda.
Additionally, Wiles contradicted Trump’s claim that former President Bill Clinton had visited Epstein’s infamous island, clarifying that while Clinton had been photographed with Epstein, he had not been implicated in any wrongdoing.
