Tragic Train Collision in Central Spain Claims Lives
Fatal Train Accident in Toledo
Madrid: Reports from Spain's state-run news agency and various local outlets indicate that a tragic train collision in central Spain has resulted in the deaths of at least 10 individuals.
According to ADIF, the operator of Spain's rail network, the incident took place on Wednesday morning in the Toledo province. As a result, train services between Madrid, Ciudad Real, and Andalusia have been halted.
Television station TVE has reported that the crash involved two high-speed trains traveling in the same direction, with one train colliding into the rear of the other, causing two carriages to derail.
Manuel Galan, the mayor of the nearby town of Urda, informed TVE that there were injuries among passengers, and civil protection officials requested the town to prepare a sports pavilion for those affected.
Another local mayor, Jesus Perez from Los Yebenes, described the situation as 'serious' during his conversation with TVE.
Emiliano Garcia-Page, the regional president of Castilla La Mancha, announced on social media that he is en route to the site of the accident.
This incident follows a previous tragedy in January, where 45 people lost their lives when a train derailed and collided with an oncoming train. That crash marked the deadliest rail disaster in Spain since 2013, which resulted in 80 fatalities, raising concerns about the safety of the country's high-speed rail system.
