Tragic Lynching of Hindu Laborer in Bangladesh: A Call for Justice

The tragic case of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu laborer lynched in Bangladesh after being falsely accused of blasphemy, has sparked outrage and calls for justice. Taslima Nasreen, a prominent human rights activist, highlights the failure of authorities to protect him despite being under police custody. The incident raises critical questions about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh and the accountability of law enforcement. As Dipu's family faces an uncertain future without their primary breadwinner, the need for justice and support for vulnerable communities becomes increasingly urgent.

A Shocking Incident in Mymensingh

Dhaka: Taslima Nasreen, a Bangladeshi author living in exile and a prominent human rights advocate, has revealed that Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth, was brutally murdered in a mob attack in Bangladesh. She claims that a Muslim colleague at his workplace in Mymensingh district falsely accused him of blasphemy.

According to Nasreen, this tragic event occurred even though Dipu was under police protection at the time.

In a video shared on her social media platform X, she recounted, "Dipu Chandra Das was employed at a factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. As a poor laborer, he became a target when a Muslim coworker sought revenge over a minor issue, publicly declaring that Dipu had insulted the Prophet. This accusation was enough to incite violence against him."

She described how a mob descended upon Dipu, attacking him viciously. Although the police intervened and took him into custody, she questioned their motives, suggesting that they may have failed to protect him adequately.

Dipu reportedly informed the police of his innocence, asserting that he had never made any derogatory comments about the Prophet and that the incident was a setup by his coworker.

Nasreen criticized the police for not pursuing the coworker, implying that some officers may sympathize with extremist ideologies. She raised concerns about whether the police willingly allowed the mob to take Dipu from their custody, leading to his horrific death.

Highlighting the dire consequences for Dipu's family, she noted that he was the primary provider for his disabled father, mother, wife, and child. She expressed deep concern for their future, questioning who would support them now and how justice would be served for Dipu's murder.

"Dipu Chandra Das was the only source of income for his family. With his earnings, they survived. What will happen to them now? Who will assist his relatives? Who will ensure that the murderers face justice? Dipu's family lacks the resources to escape to India to evade the extremists. The impoverished have no one to turn to, no country, and no faith left," Nasreen lamented.
