Tragic Loss of Massachusetts State Trooper in Wrong-Way Collision
Massachusetts State Trooper Killed in Lynnfield Crash
In a heartbreaking incident early Wednesday, Trooper Kevin Trainor, a 30-year-old officer with the Massachusetts State Police, lost his life in a wrong-way crash in Lynnfield shortly after finishing his shift. Trainor, who had served for three years, was on overnight patrol duties before he began his journey home around 2 AM.
Officials reported that a 911 call about a wrong-way driver on Route 1 was received at 2:01 AM. Just minutes later, at approximately 2:04 AM, a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes collided head-on with Trainor's cruiser. Colonel Geoffrey Noble remarked, “(Trainor) exemplified the dedication of troopers, always ready to assist, whether on duty or off.” Tragically, the collision was fatal, and Trainor was pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital. The driver of the SUV, whose identity remains unknown, also died at the scene.
Stationed at the Danvers barracks, Trainor had a commendable career in public service, previously working as a corrections officer in Essex County before graduating from the Massachusetts State Police Academy in 2023. He served as a field training officer, often referred to as a “trooper coach,” and was part of the Troop A Community Action Team.
Trainor is remembered as a dedicated individual, survived by his mother Barbara, fiancée Jessica, and siblings Melissa, Matthew, David, and Steven. Colonel Noble expressed the deep sorrow felt by the department, stating, “In an instant, reckless actions took Kevin away from his family and his colleagues at the Massachusetts State Police.” Governor Maura Healey honored Trainor, calling him a hero and expressing condolences to his grieving family, who are “devastated and heartbroken.” Authorities have pledged to support Trainor’s loved ones and honor his service and sacrifice.
