Kathmandu, September 1: The death toll from last week's catastrophic floods in Nepal has tragically surpassed 1000, with bodies continuing to wash ashore along riverbanks across various districts as of Tuesday.

According to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the confirmed number of deceased has reached 1003. The southern Chitwan district reported the highest fatalities, with 321 bodies recovered, followed by 216 in Nawalparasi East.

The NDRRMA has indicated that approximately 3,916 individuals, including 583 foreign nationals, are currently unaccounted for. Among those missing are personnel from the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police.

Additionally, 639 workers from various hydropower projects along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors have not been heard from since the disaster struck.

Authorities are actively conducting search, rescue, and relief operations in the affected regions.

The NDRRMA has reported that 279 individuals sustained injuries during the floods, and efforts to compile detailed information on casualties and injuries are ongoing as search and identification operations progress.

A total of 21,314 security personnel have been deployed for these operations, including 9,199 from the Nepali Army, 7,912 from Nepal Police, and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force.

Unidentified bodies have been collected and are being stored at 21 designated locations for identification and management.

As per the latest updates, 11,884 individuals have been rescued thus far. Search and rescue missions are still active in the flood-affected regions, utilizing helicopters and other resources to reach those stranded.

In addition, the Nepali Army is continuing its search and rescue efforts at various hydropower sites with the help of international experts. Joint operations are taking place at several projects, including Chilime, Langtang, Upper Trishuli-1, and Trishuli-3A.

During the initial rescue efforts, 279 individuals were successfully saved from areas surrounding hydropower projects, including two from Rasuwagadhi, 33 from Upper Trishuli-1, and 221 from Upper Trishuli-3A, among others.
