Fire Incident at Construction Site

A devastating fire erupted at a construction site in Brussels on Tuesday, resulting in multiple fatalities and a search for six individuals who remain unaccounted for, according to local officials. Authorities reported that several bodies were discovered within one of the two elevators at the extensive renovation site located at Place de Brouckere, where the blaze began early in the morning. Brecht Speybrouck, a spokesperson for the local labor inspection service, stated, "We had limited access to one of the elevator shafts, and we observed the remains of two or three individuals who perished in the incident." He further noted that six workers are still missing, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The local fire department indicated that over 200 workers were present on-site when the fire ignited, with three individuals requiring hospitalization. Initial reports suggest that the fire, which started on the lower levels of the renovation project, was quickly contained. However, flames that spread through the elevator shafts led to a subsequent fire in an underground area, as reported by Belgian media.
