Miami, September 7: A tragic accident involving an Amazon cargo aircraft resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left five others injured at Miami International Airport in Florida, as reported by local authorities.

The incident took place at 1:58 p.m. local time (1758 GMT) on Sunday, according to Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz during a press briefing.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava confirmed that five individuals were hospitalized due to their injuries.

Footage from the scene depicted thick smoke rising from the aircraft.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, over 60 units and around 200 firefighters were dispatched to manage the situation, as reported by a news agency.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that Air Flight 7598 overran the runway upon landing at approximately 2 p.m. Eastern Time (1800 GMT) on Sunday.

The Boeing 767-300 cargo plane had taken off from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The FAA has announced that an investigation will be conducted.

Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel mentioned in the FAA statement that the aircraft "experienced an incident while attempting to land." She added, "This is a fast-moving situation, and we're still gathering details."

In a separate incident on Saturday, two fatalities and two injuries were reported following a small plane crash in Fresno, California. Authorities indicated that first responders found a fixed-wing single-engine aircraft ablaze on a bluff overlooking the San Joaquin River.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office noted that firefighters successfully extinguished the flames, preventing them from spreading to nearby homes. Of the four individuals on board, two children were pronounced dead at the scene, while two adults were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The US National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this crash.
