Cairo: A tragic bus accident in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula resulted in the deaths of at least 22 individuals, including both Egyptians and Jordanians, as reported by officials from both nations. Additionally, 28 others sustained injuries during the incident.

The crash occurred on a roadway connecting the popular tourist destinations of Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai region, according to a statement from the Egyptian Health Ministry.

In response to the accident, the ministry dispatched 20 ambulances to the site to assist in transporting the deceased and injured to local hospitals. However, details regarding the victims' nationalities were not disclosed.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry confirmed that some of the casualties were Jordanians but did not specify the exact number.

According to the Amman-based Al-Mamlaka public broadcaster, 10 Jordanians lost their lives in the incident. The bus was reportedly en route from Cairo to Amman when it overturned on the road between Dahab and Nuweiba.

While the Egyptian health ministry did not provide specific details about the cause of the accident, local media suggested that a tire blowout may have led to the bus overturning.

Traffic accidents in Egypt are notorious for claiming thousands of lives annually, largely due to the country's inadequate transportation safety measures. Factors such as speeding, poor road conditions, and lax enforcement of traffic regulations contribute significantly to these tragic events.

Earlier this year, a multi-vehicle collision near Beni Suef resulted in 21 fatalities and 16 injuries.
