Militant Attack Claims Lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar: A tragic incident unfolded in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including the Assistant Commissioner of North Waziristan and two police officers, due to a militant ambush, according to police reports.

The attack targeted the vehicle of Shah Waliullah, the North Waziristan Assistant Commissioner, in the Bannu district.

Kashif Nawaz, a spokesperson for the Regional Police Office, confirmed that the ambush took place within the jurisdiction of the Cantt police station in Bannu.

Waliullah was fatally shot when his vehicle was attacked, alongside two constables and a local resident, while two other police officials sustained injuries.

In response to the attack, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi condemned the violence, expressing his condolences for the loss of life.

He has requested a comprehensive report on the incident from the Inspector General of Police.

Describing the event as deeply tragic, the chief minister stated that such cowardly acts by anti-state elements will not deter their resolve.

He assured that the sacrifices of those who lost their lives would not be forgotten and that justice would be pursued against the perpetrators.

In recent months, Pakistan has seen a rise in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the end of a ceasefire by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in 2022.

Since the truce's collapse, the TTP has pledged to target security forces, police, and law enforcement personnel.
