The audio, released by the maritime intelligence company Tanker Trackers, pertains to one of two Indian vessels reportedly targeted on Saturday. In the recording, a voice identifying the ship expresses distress, stating, "You gave me clearance to go! You are firing now! Let me turn back!" The vessel involved has been identified as the Sanmar Herald. Iranian state media reported that shots were fired near the ships to compel them to change their course. Footage from NBC News shows the Sanmar Herald navigating through the strait's designated "Green Area." At one point, the ship deactivated its Automatic Identification System (AIS) while heading east, only to reverse direction after reactivating the signal.

This incident occurs as Iran tightens its grip on the waterway. According to a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), vessels have been warned against approaching the strait. The IRGC noted that while several ships passed through the strait recently, the American forces have not lifted their naval blockade on Iranian vessels and ports. Consequently, they declared that the Strait of Hormuz would be closed until the blockade is removed. The IRGC cautioned that any vessel departing from its anchorage in the Persian Gulf or the Sea of Oman would be considered as collaborating with the enemy and would be targeted. They also advised all vessels and their owners to rely solely on information from the official IRGC Navy authority and Channel 16, dismissing statements from the U.S. president as untrustworthy.
