Tragic Case of Mistaken Identity

Authorities have reported that the death of a 57-year-old Sikh man, who was allegedly abducted from a Gurudwara complex in Tracy, California, is believed to be a case of mistaken identity. Avtar Singh, who had worked as a cook at the Guru Nanak Parkash gurdwara for several years, went missing on February 17. His body was discovered days later. Surveillance footage indicated that he was taken by three unidentified individuals in a white SUV around 2:30 p.m. local time on that day, with police stating that he appeared to have entered the vehicle unwillingly. The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office described him as 5’7” tall and weighing approximately 200 lbs, dressed in light-colored traditional Sikh attire at the time of his abduction. The Sheriff's Office shared that the footage showed the SUV and the three individuals dressed in dark clothing with the victim at the time of the incident. Detectives are currently investigating the case.

His wife reported him missing after returning home from work to find their infant triplets unattended. Tragically, three days later, his body was located near Lake Berryessa, nearly two hours from the site of his kidnapping.

Authorities Confirm Targeted Attack

Recent updates from law enforcement indicate that Avtar was not the intended victim. Investigators suspect that the assailants were after someone else, suggesting a deadly case of mistaken identity. According to a report, a spokesperson stated, "This was not a random act. They were targeting another individual for a specific reason, and we hope that reason will come to light." The investigation is ongoing, and no suspects have been publicly identified as of yet.
