Significant Fire Erupts at Staten Island Shipyard, Prompting Emergency Response
Fire Incident at Staten Island Shipyard
A large three-alarm fire ignited on Friday at a shipyard located on Richmond Terrace in the Mariners Harbor area of Staten Island. This incident led to a significant response from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) as firefighters confronted intense flames within the eight-story industrial facility. The fire was first reported at approximately 3:40 PM on Richmond Terrace, situated between Mersereau and Andros avenues, as indicated by emergency radio communications.
Numerous fire engines were dispatched to the location, and authorities cautioned local residents to prepare for traffic disruptions, road closures, and interruptions to mass transit services, alongside a substantial presence of emergency personnel in the vicinity. During the operation, an explosion was reported while teams were searching for a worker who was unaccounted for inside the 150-by-150 shipyard structure. A 10-66 signal was activated in response to the emergency, but officials later confirmed that all personnel were safe. Firefighters continued to battle the heavy flames within the building as they worked to bring the situation under control.
