On Friday afternoon, as the initial severe storms of the 2026 spring season approached West Michigan, a tornado was reportedly observed near Edwardsburg. The National Weather Service (NWS) for Northern Indiana issued a tornado warning affecting parts of Cass County and St. Joseph County, which includes areas such as Cassopolis, Edwardsburg, and Marcellus. This warning is set to remain in effect until 3:45 PM EST.

At approximately 3:30 PM, the NWS revised the tornado warning area, narrowing down the neighborhoods included while maintaining the alert until the same expiration time. Storm chaser Ryan Hall confirmed the sighting of a tornado in Cass County, indicating that the twister was on the ground north of Edwardsburg and causing damage as it progressed through the region.

Additionally, weather tracker Max Velocity reported a strong tornado near Edwardsburg that was not under a warning, indicating its movement toward Vandalia and Cassopolis. The NWS noted that radar indicated rotation within the storm system, and officials cautioned that quarter-sized hail could accompany the severe weather.
