Tornado Strikes Enid Amid Severe Weather

A powerful tornado impacted Enid, Oklahoma, on Thursday night as a severe weather system moved across the central United States, affecting areas from Texas to the Great Lakes, as reported by the National Weather Service. The tornado traversed through Enid and advanced towards Fairmont, damaging residential neighborhoods, an airport, and several educational institutions. Notably, Vance Air Force Base was also affected during the storm.

Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario indicated that numerous homes sustained damage, although an exact number was not immediately available. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries at that time.

The National Weather Service had previously issued warnings for a “particularly dangerous situation” in Garfield County, indicating the likelihood of strong and violent tornadoes. By late Thursday, numerous tornado warnings were still active across Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska.

Several tornadoes were reported in Oklahoma as storms moved along the northern border of the state. One tornado was spotted near Braman around 7:30 PM, followed by another confirmed around 8:40 PM on the southeastern side of Enid.

Local authorities reported that areas of Enid, particularly the Grayridge neighborhood, were affected. Residents were advised to avoid these zones to facilitate access for emergency responders, utility teams, and heavy machinery. Emergency response operations are being coordinated by city police and fire departments.

Significant damage was also reported in the southern part of the city near Southgate, where structures were impacted and power lines were downed. A mass casualty incident was declared south of Enid via a Garfield County scanner, although officials clarified that such declarations are primarily for resource mobilization and do not confirm actual casualties.

Emergency teams continued their efforts as hazardous conditions persisted, with forecasts indicating more storms that could bring large hail, damaging winds, and further tornado threats across Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska throughout the weekend.
