Indian wushu athlete Roshibina Devi expressed her thoughts following her silver medal achievement at the Asian Games. She noted that her opponent, Zhang Xiaoyu from China, effectively utilized her longer reach to gain an advantage. In the women's sanda 60 kg final, Roshibina faced a 0-5 defeat in both rounds against Zhang. This marks her third consecutive medal in wushu at the Asian Games, following a bronze in 2018 and a silver in 2022, making her the only Indian woman to achieve this feat in her sport.

'I Will Learn from My Mistakes'

In an interview, Roshibina shared her happiness about the three medals won by India in wushu, despite not clinching gold. She stated, "I will learn from my mistakes and aim for better performance in future competitions." She acknowledged that although she had a lead at one point, Zhang's height and reach proved to be significant factors in the match. "Her height and reach made it challenging for me to close the gap. She capitalized on her advantage. I will return better prepared next time," she remarked.

Preparation and Experience

Reflecting on her preparation, Roshibina mentioned the need for more training time but expressed satisfaction with her overall experience. "I had limited preparation time, which affected my training. Nonetheless, competing alongside younger athletes was a valuable experience. I will ensure thorough preparation for upcoming championships and events," she added.

Acknowledgment of Support

Roshibina expressed her gratitude towards the Indian Olympic Association, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Manipur Olympic Association, and the government for their unwavering support. "Their encouragement kept my spirits high. I also want to thank my coaches and my RD sir at SAI NCOE Imphal for their guidance in maintaining my performance. SAI has been incredibly supportive, and being part of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) has been beneficial for my training needs. I am truly thankful for the support from SAI and TOPS," she concluded.

Path to the Final

Roshibina had a remarkable journey in Japan, highlighted by her victory over the 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from Vietnam. In the semi-finals, she secured her spot in the final by defeating Indonesia's Thania Kusumaningtyas with a score of 2-0. This achievement contributes to India's medal tally at the event, which now stands at 14, including one gold, six silvers, and seven bronzes.
