New Partnership for Solar Energy Development

On Monday, Reliance Power announced that it has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement with Green Digital Private Limited. The ownership of Green Digital lies with the investment arm of the Royal Government of Bhutan, known as Druk Holding and Investments Limited.

The company stated that this collaboration will form a joint venture with a 50-50 ownership structure between Reliance Power and Druk Holding and Investments Limited (DHI). The initiative aims to develop Bhutan's largest solar energy project, which will have a total installed capacity of 500 megawatts.

Under this project, a capital expenditure of up to ₹2,000 crores will be made following the build-own-operate (BOO) model. This marks the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) from the private sector in Bhutan's solar energy sector to date.

According to the company, this initiative will facilitate regional clean energy integration and enhance cross-border infrastructure cooperation in South Asia. The project is expected to be completed in phases over the next 24 months.
