Pakistan's Airstrikes in Afghanistan

On Wednesday, Afghanistan reported that Pakistan conducted airstrikes within its borders, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 individuals and injuring 14 others. Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, confirmed that the strikes targeted the Afghan provinces of Khost, Kunar, and Paktika. Among the deceased were 11 children, one woman, and an elderly man.

As of now, there has been no official response from Pakistan regarding these airstrikes. The two nations have been engaged in intense conflict for several months, with violence escalating since late February when Afghanistan retaliated against Pakistani airstrikes with a cross-border attack.

Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of providing refuge to militants who carry out attacks within its territory, particularly targeting the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This group, while distinct, has connections with the Afghan Taliban, which has been in control of Afghanistan since it took power in 2021 during the chaotic exit of US-led forces. The Afghan government has denied these allegations.
