Rare Birth in Iraq: Baby Born with Three Genitals
Unusual Birth in Iraq
In a remarkable occurrence in Iraq, a baby has been born with three genitals. Medical professionals were astonished upon discovering this anomaly, marking it as an unprecedented case of a child having multiple private parts. Typically, variations in the number of fingers or toes can occur, but this situation regarding genitals is unprecedented.
The birth took place near Mosul in northern Iraq. Doctors described the situation as nothing short of miraculous. Among the three genitals, one measures 2 centimeters in length, while another is 1 centimeter long. These two additional organs are distinct from the primary genitalia, and they do not function in any physical capacity.
The medical team has indicated that they will surgically remove the two extra genitals. Such anomalies can arise due to complications during pregnancy or may be linked to the family's genetic history.
While the case of a baby born with three genitals is indeed rare, it is not the first of its kind. These occurrences are referred to as supernumerary penises, which are estimated to happen in one out of every 5 to 6 million births worldwide. To date, there have been around 100 documented cases of babies born with two genitals, but this is the first known instance of a child with three.
This unique case has been termed triphallia by scientists and has been published in an international case study in the International Journal of Surgery. Notably, a similar case was reported in India in 2015, although there was insufficient medical evidence at that time.
