PM Modi Engages with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V to Enhance Development Cooperation

New Delhi, Sep 10: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and the Chair of the Aga Khan Development Network, in New Delhi.

During their discussion, PM Modi reflected on the legacy of Prince Rahim's father, the late Aga Khan IV, highlighting his significant contributions to various development projects.

The two leaders also examined potential avenues to enhance India's collaboration with the Aga Khan Development Network in crucial sectors.

After the meeting, PM Modi shared on X, expressing his pleasure in meeting Prince Rahim and reminiscing about his father's lasting impact on development initiatives. He mentioned discussing strategies to strengthen their partnership in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, rural development, and empowerment of youth and women.

Further Engagements

Earlier that day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met with Prince Rahim, where they discussed the Aga Khan Development Network's efforts in social development and heritage conservation.

Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction on X, noting the significant work being done by the Aga Khan Development Network and the potential for further collaboration both in India and internationally.

Prince Rahim arrived in India on Wednesday for a week-long visit at the invitation of Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed Prince Rahim, marking his first visit to India since becoming the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community. This visit aims to review ongoing cooperation with the Aga Khan Development Network in social development and heritage preservation, as well as to explore new collaborative opportunities.

Upcoming Meetings

According to the MEA, during his stay until September 15, Prince Rahim is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi and will also have discussions with Home Minister Amit Shah.

In addition to these meetings, Prince Rahim plans to visit Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, where the Aga Khan Development Network is actively engaged in various community and development projects.

Prince Rahim was appointed as the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims in February 2025, following the passing of his father, Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, in line with the historical traditions of the Shia Imami Ismaili community.
