Significant Developments in US-Iran Negotiations

Islamabad: On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the recent US-Iran peace discussions held in Switzerland, noting that the talks had shown "promising progress."

In a post on social media, Sharif highlighted the successful conclusion of the inaugural high-level committee meeting under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Burgenstock.

"The discussions took place in a constructive and positive environment, resulting in significant advancements, including a roadmap for a final agreement within 60 days, the formation of a High-Level Committee for political oversight, and the initiation of further technical discussions," he stated.

The Prime Minister praised the leaders of both the US and Iran for their ongoing commitment to constructive dialogue and expressed appreciation to "all friendly and brotherly nations" for their support in this "historic process."

He specifically acknowledged Qatar for its vital role in establishing the necessary conditions for the negotiations and thanked the Swiss government for facilitating the talks.

The US delegation was headed by Vice President JD Vance, while the Iranian side was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Sharif and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also took part in the discussions, aiding the negotiation process.

The high-level discussions at the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland, which occurred over Sunday and Monday, were conducted under the Islamabad MoU framework signed by the US and Iran last Thursday to further negotiations on regional security and other contentious matters.

This MoU was signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with Sharif acting as a guarantor.

Sharif also paid "special tribute" to Field Marshal Asim Munir for his "tireless efforts" in ensuring the success of the talks.

"His dedication, commitment, and perseverance are truly commendable, as without them, progress would not have been possible," he remarked.

Additionally, Sharif extended his "warm compliments and heartfelt gratitude" to his deputy and foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, for his diplomatic contributions, along with his team at the Foreign Office.

He also recognized Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's role in the success of the negotiations.

"Pakistan will persist in its honest and sincere efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy towards achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution," Sharif concluded.
