Pakistan Claims Major Success Against Afghan Taliban: Nearly 800 Terrorists Eliminated
Significant Military Operation in Afghanistan
Islamabad: On Sunday, Pakistan announced that its security forces have reportedly killed nearly 800 members of the Afghan Taliban during an ongoing military operation in Afghanistan.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar provided an update on the operation named Ghazab lil-Haq, detailing the casualties inflicted on the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Fitna Al Khawarij (FAK) and the Afghan Taliban.
According to Tarar, the operation has resulted in the deaths of at least 796 personnel from Fitna Al Khawarij and the Afghan Taliban, with over 1,043 individuals reported injured since the operation commenced.
The operation has also led to the destruction of 286 Taliban posts, the capture of 44 additional posts, and the elimination of 249 tanks, armored vehicles, artillery pieces, and drones.
Operation Ghazab lil-Haq was initiated on February 26, following what Pakistan described as 'unprovoked firing' from the Afghan Taliban across the border.
The military has effectively targeted 81 locations associated with terrorists and their support infrastructure in Afghanistan through airstrikes, Tarar noted.
He also mentioned that an attempted assault on a border post in the Ghulam Khan Sector by the Afghan Taliban was thwarted on the night between Thursday and Friday, resulting in the deaths of 37 terrorists and injuries to over 80 others.
In parallel, Pakistan has been engaging in discussions with the Taliban government of Afghanistan to resolve the ongoing conflict, insisting that Kabul must take 'visible and verifiable actions' against terrorist groups.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed that these talks are taking place in Urumqi, China, involving senior officials from both nations.
