New Hope for Peace in the Middle East Following US-Iran Ceasefire
Ceasefire Announcement Sparks Optimism
Tehran: A ceasefire between the United States and Iran has ignited fresh hopes for peace in the Middle East. The two nations had been engaged in conflict for over a month. Just 90 minutes before a deadline set by President Donald Trump for Iran to agree to a ceasefire, both sides reached an agreement. Reports suggest that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei played a significant role in this ceasefire, as he directed Iran to accept the truce. However, some Israeli media outlets have claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei is currently in a coma due to an attack in the early days of the conflict and is receiving medical treatment.
Deal Initiated Under Mojtaba Khamenei's Orders
According to a report by American media outlet Axios, Mojtaba Khamenei, the new Supreme Leader of Iran, encouraged his negotiators to move towards an agreement for the first time since the war began. Mojtaba is the son of the former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an airstrike at the onset of the conflict on February 28. Following his death, Mojtaba was appointed as Iran's new Supreme Leader, although he has not made many public appearances, with only his statements being broadcast on Iranian state television.
Iran to Ensure Maritime Traffic Through Hormuz
Iran's Foreign Minister announced that under the two-week ceasefire agreement, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will be guaranteed. This strait is crucial as it carries one-fifth of the world's oil and gas. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X, stating, 'This movement will be possible in coordination with Iran's armed forces while taking into account technical limitations.'
White House Celebrates Ceasefire as a Victory
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt praised the two-week ceasefire in the Iran conflict, calling it a 'victory' for the United States. She remarked, 'The success of our military has placed us in a stronger position for negotiations, allowing President Trump and his team to secure tough agreements that pave the way for diplomatic solutions and long-term peace.'
