Nepal Police Busts Fake Lottery Scam Involving Indian Nationals

In a significant crackdown, Nepal police have arrested seven individuals, including six from India, for their involvement in a fraudulent travel lottery scheme. The suspects deceived hundreds of Nepalese citizens, claiming they had won trips to various destinations while collecting millions in fraudulent payments. The police have recovered substantial evidence and are continuing their investigation into this elaborate scam. Crackdown on Fraudulent Lottery Scheme


Kathmandu: On Thursday, authorities in Nepal apprehended seven individuals, including six from India, for orchestrating a fraudulent travel lottery scheme.


The group includes a Nepali citizen, Bibek Regmi, aged 26, who resides in the Saptari district but is currently living in Gatthaghar, Thimi, Bhaktapur. The Indian nationals involved are Hussain Sayed (39), Sajid Omar Sayed (44), Mohamad Imran (34), Mirkhalid Hussain (33), Rajak Mohmad (40), and Samada Giri (42), all hailing from Hyderabad, Telangana.


According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, these individuals were operating out of Mahalaxmi Municipality in Lalitpur district.


The suspects deceived numerous Nepalese citizens by claiming they had won a lottery for trips to various locations across Asia, Europe, and Africa, facilitated by Sheertel Holidays Pvt. Ltd.


In total, they defrauded 328 Nepalese individuals, amassing 27.65 million NPR by promoting inexpensive holiday packages through this lottery scheme, as reported by the police.


Additionally, they employed 30 local staff members to assist in running their fraudulent operation.


Law enforcement recovered over 700,000 NPR in cash, a Dell computer, an Asus laptop, a Redmi tablet, eight mobile phones, seven Indian SIM cards, and eight Indian passports from the suspects.


Clients who paid for these discounted holiday packages through the lottery were left without any trips or refunds.


The police have launched a deeper investigation into the case following the arrests.
