Montreal Shooting Linked to Anti-Feminist Ideology: Investigation Underway
Details of the Incident
A tragic shooting incident in Montreal has resulted in the deaths of a police officer, a civilian, and the shooter himself. Reports from Canadian media, citing police sources, suggest that the shooter was driven by anti-feminist beliefs and ideologies associated with the 'incel' movement. The suspect reportedly opened fire from a hotel room on Décarie Boulevard shortly before noon on Monday.
Investigation into the Manifesto
Authorities are currently analyzing a lengthy manifesto, believed to exceed 100 pages, which is thought to have been authored by the suspect. Initial assessments indicate that the document includes grievances about male loneliness and negative comments regarding women. The suspect is said to have expressed a longing for traditional societal values and criticized the exclusion of men by women.
Furthermore, the manifesto reportedly denounces online pornography, specifically targeting sites like Pornhub, which the suspect blamed for various issues faced by men. It also advocates for a violent uprising and contains sentiments linked to the masculinist movement. However, police have not disclosed specific details about the manifesto to the public.
Casualties and Community Response
During the confrontation in Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal's most populated borough, two individuals, including a police officer, lost their lives. The shooter was also killed in the exchange. A second officer was critically injured but has since stabilized, according to Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher. One civilian sustained minor injuries.
Law enforcement officials believe the shooter may have specifically targeted police officers, describing the situation as an ambush. The police responded to a 911 call around 11:35 AM local time, reporting gunfire and a firearm visible from a window. Upon arrival, officers were met with gunfire.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Safety
Authorities issued a warning for residents in parts of Côte-des-Neiges to stay indoors while the scene was secured. This neighborhood, located near downtown Montreal, is known for its diverse community, including significant Jewish populations. Police have urged the public to avoid the area and remain indoors until further notice as they continue their investigation.
Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette expressed her shock over the incident, stating, "I am deeply shaken by the tragic events that took place today in the Côte-des-Neiges area." She emphasized the importance of allowing authorities to conduct their investigation without speculation.
