Marco Rubio's Upcoming Visit to India: A Focus on Energy Cooperation and Strategic Partnerships
Strengthening US-India Relations
Washington/New Delhi: The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is set to visit India next week to enhance energy collaboration, as announced by the Department of State.
His journey will begin in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, before he heads to Mumbai and Jamnagar in India from October 17 to 22.
This marks Rubio's second trip to India since May, when he participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers' meeting led by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi.
According to the State Department, Rubio aims to engage with high-ranking officials to bolster the US-India strategic alliance, discuss regional and global issues, and explore opportunities for increased energy cooperation.
Additionally, he will connect with business leaders to advocate for commercial investment and economic collaboration.
Rubio's visit to Jamnagar is particularly significant, as it houses Reliance's refinery, recognized as the largest single-site facility globally, capable of processing 1.4 million barrels of crude oil daily.
In March, former President Donald Trump revealed plans for the US's first new refinery in 50 years, backed by Reliance Industries, to be established in Brownsville, Texas, with an investment of $300 billion.
While in Samarkand, Rubio will take part in the C5+1 Ministerial, emphasizing how strategic partnerships through this diplomatic forum can foster a more peaceful and prosperous future for the US and Central Asian nations.
The Secretary will also engage in bilateral discussions with senior officials from the C5 countries: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyz Republic.
Accompanying Rubio will be a US commercial delegation of over 200 business leaders, marking a new chapter in enhanced commercial ties between the United States and Central Asia.
