Advice from John Ramsey on Missing Persons Cases

John Ramsey is calling on Savannah Guthrie’s family to rigorously question law enforcement as the search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, surpasses 100 days. In a recent episode of Brian Entin Investigates aired on May 20, journalist Brian Entin sought Ramsey's insights regarding the case, which seems to be losing momentum.

Ramsey, whose daughter JonBenét was tragically murdered in 1996, emphasized that families should not take for granted that authorities are doing everything possible. He advised, “Do not assume that the police are fully engaged in the investigation. They might be, but it’s crucial not to take that for granted. It’s important to question their methods.” He urged families to inquire about the status of DNA evidence, asking, “Is there DNA that doesn’t match anyone in the family? What actions are being taken with it?”

He also highlighted the necessity of involving external resources, noting that local police may lack the specialized skills required for significant investigations. JonBenét Ramsey was reported missing the day after Christmas in 1996 from her home in Boulder, Colorado, and her body was discovered later in the basement, with the perpetrator never apprehended.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of the Today show anchor, was reported missing on February 1 after being last seen on January 31. Authorities have since released surveillance footage depicting what they described as an “armed individual” tampering with the camera at her residence.

As of now, over 100 days have passed since her disappearance, and no suspects or persons of interest have been publicly named. Nancy Guthrie is characterized as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Savannah Guthrie and her family are offering a reward of up to $1 million for any information that could lead to Nancy’s safe return. In an interview with Hoda Kotb, Savannah expressed her ongoing hope that someone will come forward with information.
