Iran's Supreme Leader Calls for Revenge Following Father's Death
Supreme Leader's Statement on Revenge
Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, declared on Saturday that there must be retribution for the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in strikes carried out by the United States and Israel. The elder Khamenei lost his life on February 28, the first day of the ongoing conflict, and was laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad earlier this week. The newly appointed Supreme Leader has not yet made a public appearance since taking office.
In a statement reported by the state-affiliated Fars news agency, he emphasized, "Revenge is the demand of our nation and must certainly be executed." He vowed to avenge the blood of his father and all martyrs from the two wars, addressing the late leader directly. "These criminals, whose identities are well-known and documented, will not enjoy a peaceful death in their beds. They should understand that this matter is not contingent upon my existence or that of other officials," he warned.
This declaration came shortly after former US President Donald Trump issued a threat to Iran, stating that the US would "decimate" the nation if it attempted to harm him. Trump claimed that a thousand missiles were prepared and aimed at Iran, with many more ready to follow if the Iranian government acted on its threats. He made this statement in response to threats against his life. During Khamenei’s funeral, attendees displayed posters demanding the deaths of both Khamenei and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump concluded his post by asserting that the US military would "completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran — PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!"
