Iran's Revolutionary Guard Targets Major Western Firms Amid Ongoing Conflict
Escalation of Threats from Iran
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran has issued a stark warning to prominent Western companies, labeling them as "legitimate targets" due to their purported involvement in operations related to the ongoing conflict. This declaration marks a notable intensification in the hostilities, as Tehran broadens its scope of potential targets to encompass not only military installations but also economic and technological infrastructures.
Among the companies identified in these reports are major players such as Cisco, HP, Intel, Oracle, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, IBM, Dell, Palantir, Nvidia, J.P. Morgan, Tesla, General Electric, Spire Solutions, G42, and Boeing, as reported by a local news outlet.
The conflict in West Asia, which ignited following a US-Israel strike on Iran on February 28, has now entered its fifth week, with no resolution in sight. Tehran's retaliatory actions have extended across the Gulf region.
On Tuesday, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth refrained from confirming whether ground troops would be deployed against Iran, while also indicating that discussions aimed at resolving the conflict are ongoing.
During a press briefing at the Pentagon, General Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that US military efforts in Iran are primarily focused on disrupting their minelaying capabilities and naval assets. Another critical goal is to undermine Iran's defense industrial base, which includes nuclear research facilities.
"This encompasses factories, warehouses, and laboratories involved in nuclear weapons research and development, along with the necessary infrastructure for Iran to restore its military capabilities," Caine elaborated.
In a related development, President Donald Trump remarked that the US will not withdraw its assets from the Strait of Hormuz just yet. In a telephone interview, he stated, "At some point, I will, not quite yet, but countries have to come in and take care of it." He emphasized that while Iran has been significantly weakened, they must take responsibility for their own actions.
Trump's comments followed a social media post where he criticized allies for their reluctance to assist the US in reopening this vital maritime route. He asserted that Iran no longer poses a significant threat, urging other nations to step up and take control of the situation. "Let them come up and take it. They didn't want to give a hand to anybody. NATO is terrible, and they're all terrible," he stated. "So if they want oil, come up and grab it." On the same day, airstrikes targeted Tehran, with reports of air defenses being activated.
