Iran's President Urges Unity Among Islamic Nations Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict

As the Middle East conflict continues, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for unity among Islamic nations, emphasizing that Iran has no disputes with its neighbors. His message, shared on Eid, highlights the ongoing tensions following attacks on oil facilities and military actions. The situation escalated after joint airstrikes by the US and Israel, prompting Iran to retaliate. Pezeshkian's remarks come amid fears of a wider regional conflict, particularly concerning the vital Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass. This article delves into the complexities of the current geopolitical landscape.

Call for Solidarity on Eid

Tehran: On Saturday, March 21, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the need for solidarity among Islamic nations as the conflict in the Middle East reached its 22nd day. In a message shared on his X account for Eid, he expressed that Iran holds no disputes with neighboring countries. He pointed out that Israel stands as the sole beneficiary of the ongoing hostilities, stating, "To our brothers in Islamic countries and neighboring nations, we are not in conflict with you. The only party gaining from our divisions is the Zionist entity." He further prayed for strength and unity, urging adherence to the teachings of #Rasul_Allah to earn divine favor.

Pezeshkian's remarks came in the wake of escalating tensions following Iran's attacks on significant oil facilities in Gulf nations, a response to Israel's strikes on Iran's Pars natural gas field and Bushehr nuclear power plant.

In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile strikes on Aramco's Samref refinery in Saudi Arabia, as well as gas facilities in Qatar and the UAE.

Earlier this month, Pezeshkian had expressed regret to Gulf nations for the attacks. However, he later asserted Iran's right to defend itself against military actions from the US and Israel, targeting facilities that instigate aggression against Iran.

Background of the Conflict: The current turmoil in the Middle East ignited on February 28 when the US and Israel conducted joint airstrikes on Iran, resulting in the deaths of several high-ranking officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Following this, Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli cities and US military bases in the Gulf, alongside targeting oil facilities in the region. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, leading to significant disruptions and raising concerns about a broader regional conflict, as approximately 20% of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments pass through this vital waterway.
