Iran's Leadership Unites Amidst Tensions with the US

In a strong rebuttal to US President Donald Trump's claims of division within Iran's leadership, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf emphasized the nation's unity under its Supreme Leader. As tensions rise over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, Ghalibaf's statements reflect a commitment to national solidarity. Trump, on the other hand, has asserted US control over the Strait and suggested drastic measures against factions within Iran. This ongoing diplomatic tension coincides with an indefinite ceasefire extension announced by Trump, as negotiations remain stalled. Read on to explore the implications of these developments.

Iran's Response to US Claims

On Thursday, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran's Parliament and chief negotiator, firmly rejected assertions made by US President Donald Trump regarding supposed discord within Iran's leadership. Ghalibaf emphasized that the nation stands united under the guidance of its Supreme Leader, despite rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and stalled diplomatic discussions. He expressed on X (formerly Twitter) in Persian, "In Iran, there are no radicals or moderates; we are all 'Iranian' and 'revolutionary.' With the unwavering unity of our nation and government, and complete loyalty to the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, we will ensure that the aggressor regrets their actions." He further stated, "One God, one leader, one nation, and one path; that path being the path to victory for Iran, which is more precious than life."

Earlier, President Trump had claimed that Iran's leadership is experiencing confusion and internal strife. He remarked, "Iran is having a very hard time figuring out who their leader is! They just don’t know! The infighting is between the 'Hardliners,' who have been losing BADLY on the battlefield, and the 'Moderates,' who are not very moderate at all (but gaining respect!), is CRAZY!" This statement was shared on his social media platform, Truth Social. Trump also asserted that the US maintains "total control" over the vital Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passageway for approximately 20% of the world's oil supply. He stated, "No ship can enter or leave without the approval of the United States Navy. It is 'Sealed up Tight,' until such time as Iran is able to make a DEAL!!!" Additionally, he suggested a drastic approach to the factions within Iran, stating, "If there are two factions in Iran, one that wants a deal and one that doesn't, let's kill the ones who don't want a deal." This week, Trump announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran, coinciding with the ongoing deadlock in peace negotiations. While Iran acknowledged the ceasefire, it has not committed to participating in new talks.
