Iran's Foreign Minister Responds to Trump's Meeting Proposal with Supreme Leader

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has responded to US President Donald Trump's suggestion of a meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, urging a realistic perspective on the situation. Trump expressed he would be honored to meet Khamenei if a deal is reached, but Araghchi emphasized the need for realism. As negotiations appear to progress, tensions in the Middle East have escalated, particularly following missile strikes by Iran's IRGC in retaliation for US military actions. This complex situation continues to unfold, raising questions about the future of US-Iran relations.

Iran's Reaction to Trump's Remarks

Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, has rejected comments made by US President Donald Trump regarding a potential meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. Araghchi emphasized the need for a realistic approach, stating, "I came across a report suggesting that Trump expressed a willingness to meet. However, we must remain grounded in reality," as reported by Al Jazeera.

Earlier this week, Trump mentioned he would feel "honored" to meet with Khamenei if an agreement could be established between the two nations. He stated, "I don't want to meet, but if I did, I'd be honored to meet him," when questioned about the possibility of a discussion with the Iranian leader. He added, "If a deal is reached, it’s conceivable that I would meet him."

It is important to note that Khamenei's father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed at the onset of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran on February 28. Trump also indicated that negotiations between the US and Iran are progressing positively, saying, "It might not happen, you know? Who knows?" He speculated that if a deal were to materialize, it could occur over the weekend.

However, tensions in the Middle East escalated again on Saturday morning, as Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced missile strikes against "enemy bases in the region" in response to US military actions targeting Iranian sites near the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American forces intercepted four Iranian drones aimed at the Strait of Hormuz.
