Iranian Leaders Join Public Celebrations Amid Ongoing Conflict
Iran's Islamic Republic Day Celebrations
On April 1, Iran commemorated its Islamic Republic Day, a significant occasion marking the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979. President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made a rare public appearance alongside citizens, despite the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel. This event saw hundreds of locals cheering, even as the nation mourns the loss of leaders and many lives during the ongoing war that began on February 28. Notably, both leaders appeared without visible security, a first during this month-long conflict.
Iran's Islamic Republic Day, celebrated on 12 Farvardin (April 1), signifies the end of a 2,500-year Persian monarchy and the transition to an Islamic state following a revolutionary referendum that saw a 98.2% approval rate. This day is recognized as a public holiday across the nation.
In a video shared by RT's Spanish account on X, Pezeshkian and Araghchi were seen participating in a demonstration against perceived aggression from the US and Israel. The footage, lasting over 50 seconds, shows them marching among protesters who were chanting and holding signs denouncing the two nations. The exact location of this demonstration remains undisclosed.
