Iran Reports Alarming Civilian Casualties Amid US-Israeli Airstrikes
UN Reports on Civilian Impact of Airstrikes
United Nations: According to Iran's UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani, US-Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 1,332 Iranian civilians, including women and children, with many more injured.
Iravani reported that over 180 children have lost their lives and more than 20 educational institutions have suffered damage, citing information from the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
He accused the United States and Israel of intentionally targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, asserting that they have crossed all boundaries in their actions.
The ambassador stated that Iranian cities are facing indiscriminate attacks, with densely populated areas and essential civilian facilities being specifically targeted.
"These actions are clear violations of international law, constituting war crimes and crimes against humanity," he declared.
Iravani noted that 13 healthcare facilities have been struck, and numerous civilian sports and recreational sites in Tehran and other cities were attacked recently, resulting in the deaths of over 18 female athletes and injuries to around 100 others.
"Their goal is evident: to instill fear in civilians, commit atrocities, and maximize destruction and suffering," he emphasized.
He dismissed claims that only military targets were hit as unfounded.
Iravani affirmed that Iran will continue to exercise its right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the UN Charter until the aggression ceases, stating that Iran's response is lawful and proportionate, aimed solely at military targets.
He reiterated that Iran does not seek conflict but will fiercely defend its sovereignty and take necessary actions to protect its people and territory.
Responding to comments from US President Donald Trump regarding Iran's leadership, Iravani described them as a blatant infringement on the principle of non-interference in the internal matters of sovereign states, as established by the UN Charter, asserting that Iran will not tolerate foreign interference.
The Iranian ambassador urged all UN member nations to denounce these acts of aggression and war crimes, which threaten regional and global peace and security.
"The Security Council must take immediate and decisive action," he urged.
