Intensified Security Operations in Manipur Following Militant Attack
Security Forces Ramp Up Operations in Manipur
Imphal, March 26: In response to a recent attack by suspected Kuki militants on an Indian Army post at Phougakchao Awang Leikai, security forces have escalated their combing operations in Bishnupur district.
The coordinated effort, which includes personnel from the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Manipur Police, and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), aims to locate the assailants and avert further violence in the area.
This operation was initiated after an incident late Wednesday night along the Bishnupur–Churachandpur route, where armed militants reportedly opened fire in the Phouljang and Gothol regions.
According to a statement from Manipur Police, on March 25, 2026, around 11:40 PM, suspected Kuki militants targeted an Indian Army post in the Phouljang/Gothol vicinity.
In response, the Indian Army and the CRPF (58th Battalion) stationed in the area quickly returned fire, resulting in a gunfight that lasted about 30 minutes.
A police official confirmed that the forces acted swiftly, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire.
Since then, security forces have heightened their vigilance in the region, conducting search operations in nearby areas.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged civilians to avoid spreading unverified information.
In another development, security forces dismantled six unauthorized bunkers in the Litan and Mongkat Chepu Upper village areas of Ukhrul district.
As part of ongoing operations, these bunkers were taken down on Wednesday, following the commencement of the operation the previous day.
This action comes amid rising tensions between Kuki and Tangkhul Naga villagers near Litan Sareikhong, where a Kuki woman was injured in recent gunfire, and two Tangkhul Naga individuals were hurt in a separate incident in the Kamjong district.
Both groups have exchanged accusations regarding the attacks, further inflaming the situation.
Officials noted that the bunkers, previously utilized in recent conflicts between armed factions in the troubled Litan area, have been largely neutralized following the operation.
Security forces are on high alert, with troops strategically positioned to prevent any escalation of violence.
To stabilize the situation and deter further conflicts, security forces have intensified search operations and area control measures in vulnerable regions.
