Intense Airstrikes in Tehran Mark Escalation in Israel-Iran Conflict
Severe Destruction in Tehran
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran in the Middle East has reached a catastrophic new level. Late Saturday night, a coordinated airstrike by U.S. and Israeli forces targeted fuel storage facilities in Tehran and its surrounding areas. Major explosions occurred at several key oil depots, including the Shahre Nour Oil Depot in western Tehran, the Aghdasia Warehouse in the northeast, the Tehran Refinery in the south, and depots in the city of Karaj, sending flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed in an official statement that these strikes were aimed at oil storage centers supplying fuel to Iranian military facilities, which are crucial for the Iranian armed forces. According to Iran's oil ministry, multiple depots in Tehran and Alborz provinces were hit, resulting in at least four fatalities and numerous injuries. Fuel distribution in Tehran has been temporarily halted, causing chaos in the city.
This assault occurred on the ninth day of the conflict, which began on February 28, 2026, with joint attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iranian military and governmental sites. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran must surrender unconditionally, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised 'many surprises.' Iranian media has labeled the strikes as an attack by 'America and the Zionist regime.'
Videos and images of the attacks have gone viral on social media, showcasing massive flames and clouds of black smoke over Tehran. Residents reported that the sound of the explosions could be heard several kilometers away.
Iran has threatened retaliation, as the conflict has now spread to Lebanon, Iraq, and Gulf nations. The United Nations and the international community have urgently called for a ceasefire, but the situation appears to be deteriorating.
