India's U-18 Men's Hockey Team Clinches Asia Cup 2026 Title with Dominant Victory

India Triumphs in Men's U-18 Asia Cup 2026

The Indian U-18 Men's Hockey Team secured the Men's U-18 Asia Cup 2026 championship by defeating the host nation, Japan, with a score of 4-1 in the final held in Kakamigahara, Japan, on Friday. Ashish Tani Purti was the standout player, scoring a hat-trick with goals at the 2nd, 28th, and 34th minutes. Captain Ketan Kushwaha also contributed with a goal in the 30th minute, showcasing India's dominance. Japan's only goal came from Numada Gaku in the 52nd minute.


Hockey India Rewards the Champions

In recognition of their remarkable achievement, Hockey India announced a cash prize of INR 3 lakh for each player of the gold medal-winning team. Additionally, the support staff will receive INR 1.5 lakh each. The Indian U-18 Women's Hockey Team, which won a bronze medal earlier, will receive INR 1 lakh per player and INR 50,000 for each support staff member.


Individual Accolades for Indian Players

Ashish Tani Purti was named Player of the Match for his exceptional performance and was also the tournament's top scorer with 17 goals. Furthermore, goalkeeper Ayush Rajak earned the title of Best Goalkeeper. In the women's tournament, Nausheen Naz from India was the top scorer with 12 goals, marking a successful outing for the Indian teams at the Men's and Women's U-18 Asia Cup 2026.


Match Overview

India quickly established their dominance in the first quarter, winning a penalty corner within the first 90 seconds. Ashish Tani Purti capitalized on this opportunity, scoring the opening goal at the 2-minute mark. Despite Japan's attempts to penetrate the Indian defense, the first quarter concluded with India leading 1-0.


In the second quarter, India maintained their momentum, extending their lead to 2-0 when Ashish scored again in the 28th minute. Captain Ketan Kushwaha added a third goal just before halftime, making it 3-0.


The third quarter saw India continue their offensive, with Ashish completing his hat-trick in the 34th minute, pushing the score to 4-0. Japan managed to score a penalty stroke in the 52nd minute through Numada Gaku, but it was merely a consolation as India held firm to secure the championship.
