On Saturday, the Indian women's cricket team, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, departed from Mumbai for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The event saw a significant turnout of fans, showcasing the excitement surrounding the team's journey.
Before their departure, Kaur expressed her confidence in the team's capabilities, labeling India as one of the top contenders for the championship. She highlighted the importance of managing pressure and executing strategies effectively in the fast-paced format.
Group Stage Challenges Await
India will face tough competition in the group stage, with matches lined up against South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan. These initial games are crucial for determining the team's advancement in the tournament. The first match is set against Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 14, followed by encounters with the Netherlands, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Australia throughout England.
The squad features prominent players such as Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and Renuka Singh. Mandhana's batting prowess and Renuka's fast bowling are expected to be vital in adapting to the conditions in England.
To gear up for the World Cup, India will engage in a three-match T20I series against England starting May 28. This series aims to finalize team combinations and refine strategies ahead of the tournament.
