Abhijith Nag Balasubramanya, an Indian entrepreneur based in Sweden, has announced his decision to close his business and leave the country due to what he describes as a hostile immigration environment and a fundamentally xenophobic system. The founder and CEO of Hydro Space Sweden AB shared his resignation on LinkedIn, stating that he has sold the company and must depart by the end of the month. He emphasized that this decision was not voluntary but rather a forced exit due to the actions of an increasingly dysfunctional state apparatus.

In his post titled "Where Innovation Goes to Die in Bureaucracy," Balasubramanya expressed his frustration with the Swedish Migration Agency, describing his experience as a lesson in systemic dysfunction. He noted that while his company celebrated its first harvest, the agency was dismantling his life. He criticized the agency for its incompetence, claiming that case officers lacked the necessary business understanding to support a growing startup.

Balasubramanya further criticized the Swedish system for what he termed "procedural cowardice," stating that his case officer ignored multiple emails and refused to provide necessary guidance, only to mock him when a decision was made. He highlighted the agency's inconsistent reasoning, noting that it changed its justification for his application rejection, which he deemed a sign of bad faith.

Accusations of Systemic Hostility

He accused the Swedish government of fostering a culture that disrespects international talent, stating that the current political climate has led to contempt for foreign entrepreneurs. Balasubramanya pointed out that he established a fully operational business within six months, contributing to local employment and food security in Northern Sweden, yet faced a lack of transparency and decency from the Migration Agency.

Expressing his exhaustion from battling a flawed system, he has decided to return to India to focus on his mental health, which he claims has suffered due to the agency's actions. Despite the challenges, he remains passionate about sustainability and plans to return stronger, applying his skills where they are appreciated. He concluded by thanking his customers and partners in Skelleftea, expressing pride in what he accomplished, even if he could not witness its continued growth.
