Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal, who recently clinched gold and silver medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026, are now setting their sights on winning gold at the Asian Games following their impressive performance in Glasgow. The Indian boxing team achieved its best-ever medal tally at the CWG 2026, securing seven golds and a total of ten medals, and they were warmly welcomed back at the Delhi Airport.

Boxers Share Aspirations After Warm Welcome

Upon their return, Ankush expressed his joy, stating, "I feel fantastic. Your support means everything, and we will continue to bring home more medals. The moment our National Anthem played was indescribable. My goal now is to secure gold at the Asian Games."

Narender, who earned a silver medal and was the last to contribute to the boxing team's medal count, is determined to excel at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan starting September 14. He mentioned, "Preparations are going well, and the support from the government is excellent. This was my first CWG experience, and although I aimed for gold, I am focused on performing my best at the Asian Games. The entire team is well-prepared, and we have strong backing from the government."

Another silver medalist, Jadumani Singh, shared his excitement about the warm reception, saying, "It feels wonderful to be welcomed like this after competing in such a significant event."

Recap of the Final Bouts

In the men's 80kg final, Panghal secured India's seventh gold by defeating England's Dimeji Shittu with a 4-1 split decision.

Narender faced England's Damar Thomas in the men's 90+kg final, where he lost 0-5 in a unanimous decision, but his silver medal marked a successful campaign for the Indian boxing team.

Jadumani Singh also earned a silver medal, finishing second in the men's 55kg final after losing 0-5 to Australia's Jye Dixon.

CWG 2026 Overview and Future Prospects

The 2026 Commonwealth Games were conducted in a compact format, which resulted in the exclusion of several major events where India traditionally excels, such as shooting, wrestling, and badminton.
