India's Strong Performance in Jakarta
India has clinched six medals in the U-19 men's division at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships, showcasing remarkable talent during the quarterfinals held in Jakarta.
Victorious Matches Highlighted
Aditya (55kg) achieved a decisive 5:0 victory against Baruis Ephraim John from the Philippines. Following this, Sikander (60kg) secured a solid 4:1 win over Tajikistan's Sharifkhon Nuraliev.
Mausam Suhag (65kg) also advanced to the semifinals, guaranteeing a medal for India, as confirmed by a press release.
Dominant Wins in Higher Weight Classes
In the upper weight categories, Devender Choudhary (75kg) delivered a commanding 5:0 win against Indonesia's Muhammad Rayhan Athaillah. Sagar (85kg) showcased his skills with a second-round RSC victory over Irnanda Firmanda from Indonesia, while Shubham Rajput (90kg) achieved an impressive RSC win in the first round against Indonesia's Nouval Nouval.
Tight Contests in Other Matches
India faced some tough matches as well. Ambekar Meitei Lairenlakp (50kg) narrowly lost by a 3:2 split decision to Japan's Kotaro Nishizaki. Lokesh (80kg) was defeated 3:1 by Kazakhstan's Timur Taibekov, and Loven Gulia (+90kg) faced an RSC defeat in the second round against Kazakhstan's Vladislav Samozhonov.
With six boxers moving on to the semifinals, India has guaranteed six medals in the U-19 men's category, highlighting the promising future of its young boxing athletes on the continental stage.
