India Issues Safety Advisory for Nationals in Iran Amid Escalating Tensions
Safety Advisory for Indians in Iran
New Delhi, Mar 3: On Tuesday, the Indian government urged its citizens residing in Iran to exercise extreme caution and to stay indoors as much as possible due to the worsening security situation following recent military actions by the United States and Israel.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran issued a new advisory, stating, “In light of the evolving circumstances, all Indian nationals in Iran are advised to take utmost care, limit unnecessary travel, and remain indoors as much as possible.”
It further advised Indians to stay updated with the news, maintain awareness of their surroundings, and await additional instructions from the Embassy. Approximately 9,000 Indians, including students, are currently in Iran.
Due to increased security risks in Tehran, many Indian students have been relocated to safer areas outside the capital, as noted in the advisory.

The Embassy has arranged transportation, food, and accommodation for the relocated students. However, a few students who opted not to accept the Embassy's assistance remain in Tehran.
Reports indicate that parts of Tehran and other Iranian cities have been designated as “red zones,” with communication services disrupted. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that airstrikes have resulted in at least 787 fatalities in the country since the conflict began.
On Monday, India confirmed its first casualty linked to the ongoing violence when an oil tanker was reportedly attacked in the Gulf of Oman, leading to the death of an Indian national aboard.
The Embassy of India expressed its heartfelt condolences regarding the tragic loss of the Indian national on the MKD Vyom. They are coordinating closely with local authorities in Oman to ensure the safe and prompt repatriation of the nationals on the vessel.
“We are dedicated to providing all necessary assistance in this situation,” the Embassy stated on social media.
According to Oman’s official news agency, the oil tanker MKD VYOM, registered under the Marshall Islands, was struck by an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) approximately 52 nautical miles off the coast of Oman.
