Strengthening India-Japan Relations

On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged with senior officials from Japan's Foreign Ministry to discuss key aspects of their multifaceted bilateral relations, including defense and security, economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

Misri met with Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi for the Foreign Secretary-Undersecretary talks. The Indian Embassy in Tokyo shared on social media platform ‘X’ that discussions revolved around advancing the India-Japan special strategic and global partnership, along with India's firm stance against terrorism.

A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs indicated that both sides reviewed significant issues in their multifaceted bilateral relations, encompassing political ties, defense and security, economic collaboration, and exchanges among citizens.

They also exchanged views on matters of current importance. The Indian Embassy noted that Misri had discussions with Japan's Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Hiroyuki Namazu regarding India-Japan cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and other shared interests.

Additionally, Misri met with Japan's National Security Advisor Masataka Okano to deliberate on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The Indian Embassy promoted the hashtag ‘Connecting Himalayas with Mount Fuji’ alongside both posts.

This visit by Misri coincided with a multilateral delegation's trip to Japan, emphasizing the right to self-defense following Operation Sindoor and addressing terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
