India and Italy Elevate Ties to Special Strategic Partnership
Strengthening India-Italy Relations
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the relationship between India and Italy has been elevated to a Special Strategic Partnership. During a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Modi expressed his enthusiasm for this upgrade, stating, "I am pleased to announce that we are enhancing the India-Italy relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership." He elaborated that the "India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029" aims to provide a practical and forward-looking framework for their collaboration. Modi noted that trade between the two nations is on track to reach a target of 20 billion euros, with over 400 Italian firms actively contributing to India's economic development.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his appreciation to PM Meloni for the warm reception given to him and his delegation in Rome. He drew a comparison between Rome and his own constituency, Varanasi, remarking, "Rome is often referred to as the Eternal City, and Varanasi is similarly regarded as a timeless cultural hub. The connection between our two cultures naturally fosters warmth and camaraderie."
