Significant Agreement Between India and Canada
New Delhi, Mar 2: On Monday, India and Canada established a pivotal agreement concerning uranium supply, alongside plans to finalize a comprehensive economic partnership agreement soon after discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
During their meeting, the leaders signed multiple agreements, including one focused on collaboration in the critical minerals sector, with Canada set to provide uranium to India.
Modi remarked, "We have achieved a significant deal for long-term uranium supply in the civil nuclear energy sector. Additionally, we will collaborate on small modular reactors and advanced reactor technologies."
The two nations also solidified the terms for the comprehensive economic partnership agreement.
Modi emphasized, "India and Canada share a strong commitment to democratic principles and celebrate diversity. Our mutual vision for humanity's well-being drives us to advance in all areas."
He further stated, "Today, we explored how to elevate this vision into a deeper partnership."
Moreover, the Prime Minister noted that both countries aim to enhance their defense industries and maritime domain awareness.
In discussions regarding the volatile security landscape in West Asia, Modi expressed India's support for resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. He stated, "The current situation in West Asia is deeply concerning for us. India advocates for resolving all disputes through dialogue and diplomacy."
He added, "We will persist in collaborating with all nations to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in the region."
The leaders also addressed strategies to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Modi stated, "We recognize that terrorism, extremism, and radicalization pose serious challenges not only to our nations but to humanity as a whole. Our close collaboration in combating these issues is vital for global peace and stability."
Carney, in his comments, noted that Canada and India are defining their future through the expansion of a "valued partnership" with new aspirations.
