India Achieves Remarkable Success at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games
India's Podium Sweep in Men's Shot Put F46
On Wednesday, India celebrated its second podium sweep at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, with Sachin Khilari, Mohd Yasser, and Praveen securing gold, silver, and bronze, respectively, in the men's shot put F46 event. Additionally, Bhagyashri Jadhav contributed to the medal tally by winning silver in the women's shot put F34 category.
Men's Shot Put F46: A Record-Breaking Performance
Khilari, a seasoned Paralympic medallist, achieved gold with a record-breaking throw of 15.87 meters on his final attempt. Yasser followed closely, earning silver with a season-best throw of 15.06 meters, while Praveen rounded out the Indian success with a throw of 14.94 meters.
Dominance in Discus Throw
This achievement marked India's second clean sweep at the Games, following their impressive performance in the men's discus throw F43/F44/F62/F64 final on Day 2. Devender Kumar clinched gold with 781 Raza points, while Rakesh secured silver with 771 points, and Pardeep Kumar took bronze with 669 points. Devender's best throw of 49.71 meters in his second attempt was crucial, while Pardeep recorded the longest throw of the competition at 51.15 meters. The Raza points system adjusts for different disability classifications, meaning the longest throw does not always dictate the final results.
Jadhav's Silver in Women's Shot Put
Earlier, Bhagyashri Jadhav earned silver in the women's shot put F34 with a personal-best throw of 8.19 meters, achieved on her third attempt. She also delivered a strong throw of 8.14 meters in her second attempt. China's Lijuan Zou took gold with a Games-record throw of 9.07 meters, marking Jadhav's second consecutive silver medal in this event at the Asian Para Games.
Current Medal Standings
As of now, India ranks fifth in the overall medal standings with a total of 45 medals, which includes 12 gold, 15 silver, and 18 bronze.
