Court Grants Bail Extension for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

Islamabad: A court in Pakistan has decided to prolong the interim bail for former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, concerning the cases from May 9 and five additional legal matters.

The court mandated that the 73-year-old Khan must attend the next hearing either in person or via video link.

On Tuesday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka presided over the pre-arrest bail requests, with advocate Shamsa Kayani representing both Khan and Bibi, as reported by local media.

As a result, the court has extended their interim bail and postponed the hearing until January 27, ensuring that Khan's presence is secured for the upcoming session.

In addition to the May 9 incidents, Khan faces charges including attempted murder and the submission of purportedly fraudulent receipts.

Bushra Bibi is also implicated in a separate case concerning the alleged submission of fake receipts related to gifts from Toshakhana.

Furthermore, Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Amir Zia has also extended Bushra Bibi's interim bail on her pre-arrest application, with the matter adjourned until January 27.

A case against her was filed at the Ramna police station under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act, among other relevant laws.

The May 9 cases stem from violent protests by Khan's supporters, who engaged in vandalism following his arrest in Islamabad in 2023.

Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 and is facing numerous legal challenges that have arisen since his removal from office in April 2022. Recently, both he and Bushra Bibi received a 17-year prison sentence for corruption related to Toshakhana.
