Islamabad, September 2: Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has once again faced restrictions as his sisters were denied visitation rights at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Reports indicate that family members of his wife, Bushra Bibi, were also barred from meeting her.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has condemned the jail authorities for this denial, labeling it a significant breach of directives issued by both the Supreme Court and the Islamabad High Court (IHC), according to local media sources.
PTI officials expressed that the refusal to permit family visits, despite judicial orders, raises alarming questions regarding adherence to the rulings of the higher judiciary. They have called on the relevant prison officials to comply with the legal mandates and facilitate meetings between Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and their family members.
Advocate Awais Younas Chaudhry, representing PTI, noted that Imran Khan's three sisters waited from 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, but were ultimately denied access to him.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court dismissed a second request from Imran Khan's sister for an expedited hearing regarding a contempt of court petition related to the non-implementation of the court's order from August 18, which mandated his transfer to Shifa International Hospital, as reported by another local daily.
The court had previously rejected an earlier request for a swift hearing on the matter.
On August 18, the Supreme Court had instructed that Imran Khan be moved to Shifa International Hospital for medical care and mandated that family visits be permitted.
However, despite this ruling, authorities transferred him to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for treatment on August 21 and returned him to Adiala Jail after medical staff deemed him "medically fit," according to reports.
Since his imprisonment in August 2023, following convictions that PTI claims are politically motivated, Imran Khan has faced multiple legal challenges, including allegations related to state gifts and an unlawful marriage case.
