Quetta, Oct 28: Reports indicate that three female students sustained injuries when masked assailants opened fire at the Girls Degree College located in Nushki district, Balochistan. This information was provided by the college administration.

Details of the Attack

According to officials, three armed individuals invaded the college grounds on Tuesday, damaging surveillance equipment and vandalizing the principal's office before targeting the students with gunfire.

The injured students were transported to Mir Gul Khan Naseer Teaching Hospital in Nushki for medical attention, with one reported to be in critical condition, as per local news sources.

The victims have been identified as Mehmoona and Maryam from Qaziabad, along with Rukhsana from the Killi Mengal area of Balochistan.

Reactions and Condemnations

This attack has sparked widespread outrage from human rights organizations and student groups, who have expressed serious concerns regarding the safety of students and the worsening security conditions in educational institutions throughout Balochistan.

The Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC) condemned the incident, highlighting that educational facilities are increasingly becoming targets, raising alarms about student safety.

"Students, regardless of gender, are living in fear for their safety. Previously, educators were targeted, and now students are facing similar threats, which severely undermines the educational atmosphere. Quality education can only thrive in a secure and supportive environment where students can pursue knowledge without fear," stated the BSAC.

Concerns Over Security Measures

The rise in violent incidents at schools and other educational establishments is not only alarming but also represents a severe form of violent crime that occurs with little accountability. The lack of adequate security measures for educational institutions, including the protection of teachers and students, poses a significant threat to literacy in Balochistan.

In a related incident, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) condemned the shooting at the girls' college and the forced closure of Vision Public School in Qadir Abad by armed men, holding the Pakistani authorities accountable for both occurrences.

"The state fears an educated Baloch woman more than anything else. She reads, she questions, she speaks out, and she leads. This is why the attack was directed at a girls' college. They want our daughters confined, silent, and fearful, discouraging parents from sending their daughters to school," the BYC remarked.

Ongoing Security Concerns

The Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) expressed deep concern regarding the attack on female students, noting that Nushki has been under a military siege and a curfew-like situation for several months.

In such a stringent security environment, the breach of the girls' college by armed individuals, who damaged CCTV cameras and the principal's office while firing at students, highlights a significant failure in state security protocols.

The Baloch Women Forum (BWF) criticized the daylight attack on the girls' college, stating, "The educational deprivation in Balochistan is well-known. If assaults on female students persist without accountability for the perpetrators, the situation could worsen, affecting every family with daughters seeking education or employment."
